1. Who we are and what this notice covers
Jet Island Tours Ltd (BRN C25229109), Lotus, Palma, Quatre Bornes, Mauritius (“Jet Island Tours”, “we”, “us”) provides school transport for pupils of Le Bocage International School. We are the controller of the personal data described here under the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017.
This notice covers our website jetislandtours.mu, enquiries you send us, the parent portal (live van tracking, absence notices and notifications) and the records we keep to run the service and manage fees.
2. The information we collect
- Parent or guardian details — name, email address, mobile and WhatsApp numbers, and your messages to us.
- Your child’s details — name, class or year group and school, and any notes you choose to give us that help us look after them on the journey.
- Pickup point — the agreed pickup location (a pinned map position) and its place in the van’s pickup order.
- Absence notices — the days and trips (morning, afternoon or both) on which your child will not travel, and who recorded the notice.
- Vehicle location data — the position, speed and ignition status of our vans, provided by a GPS tracker fitted to each vehicle. This tracks the van, not your child; it becomes linked to your child only because it shows the progress of the trip your child is booked on.
- Portal activity — sign-ins, when tracking was viewed, notifications sent, and settings you choose. We keep this to secure the portal and to show who accessed what.
- Fees and payments — amounts, receipts, balances and payment method.
- Technical data — basic information your browser sends when you visit the website or portal (for example device type), and, if you switch on notifications, a notification token for your device.
3. Children’s information
Our service is for children, so we take particular care. We only process a child’s personal data with the consent of their parent or guardian, collect only what we need to transport them safely, and never use it for marketing. Children do not have portal accounts; the portal is for parents and guardians only.
4. Why we use your information, and our legal grounds
- To provide the transport service you agreed with us — planning routes and pickup order, informing the driver and attendant, handling absences and communicating with you (performance of our agreement with you).
- To show you the live location of your child’s van and send trip notifications (your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
- To keep children safe and run the service properly — for example keeping a record of trips and absences, and securing the portal (our legitimate interests, balanced against your rights).
- To manage fees and keep accounting records, and to meet licensing and legal requirements (legal obligation and performance of our agreement).
- To answer enquiries sent through the website, WhatsApp, phone or email (steps taken at your request before an agreement).
5. How live tracking works
- You can only see the van assigned to your child, and only during the school run times (from shortly before the first pickup until the van reaches school in the morning, and from school until the last drop-off in the afternoon). Outside those times the map is closed.
- You see the van, your own pickup point and the school. Other families’ pickup points and children’s names are never shown to you.
- Notifications such as “approaching your stop” and “arrived at school” are based on the van’s GPS position. They confirm where the van is; until our driver confirmation feature is introduced, they do not confirm that a particular child has boarded or left the van.
- Drivers and attendants see the names and pickup points of the children on their own run only, to do their job.
6. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as needed with:
- our drivers and attendants (their own run only);
- service providers acting on our instructions: our GPS tracking provider (MyGPS, Mauritius), website and portal hosting (Netlify), our database provider (Supabase), our email delivery provider (Brevo) and, where used, a mapping or messaging provider;
- professional advisers, and public authorities where the law requires it.
7. Where your information is held
Our database is hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany) and our website is served through a global network. Where data is held or processed outside Mauritius, we use providers that offer appropriate safeguards for personal data, as required by the Data Protection Act 2017.
8. How long we keep it
- Vehicle location history: 30 days, then deleted.
- Absence notices and trip records: 12 months.
- Portal activity logs: 12 months.
- Parent and child details, pickup point: while your child uses our service, then 12 months.
- Fee and payment records: for the period required by Mauritian company and tax law.
- Website enquiries that do not lead to a booking: 12 months.
9. How we protect it
The website and portal use encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Portal sign-in uses one-time codes, access is limited by role (parent, driver, owner) and by family, and database rules prevent anyone from seeing another family’s information. Our staff and providers are bound by confidentiality.
10. Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act 2017 you may ask us to:
- give you access to, and a copy of, the personal data we hold about you and your child;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- erase information we no longer need, or restrict how we use it;
- stop processing based on our legitimate interests (object);
- withdraw your consent to live tracking and notifications at any time — in the portal under Settings, or by contacting us. The transport service itself continues unaffected.
We make no decisions about you or your child based solely on automated processing.
11. Cookies
Our website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. The parent portal only uses storage that is strictly necessary to keep you signed in and remember your settings. If this changes, we will update this notice and ask for your consent where required.
12. Complaints
If you have a concern, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Office, Mauritius.
13. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and we will tell parents about any significant change through the portal.
